  1. GRACE Ambassador 

GRACE Ambassador

This position reports to:  Director of Shelter Services
Status: Full Time (40 hours per week)
Starting Salary:  $14/ hour
Overtime: Eligible 
Location: GRACE Campus


The GRACE Ambassador is the first person guests, donors and visitors will interact with when arriving on the GRACE campus.

Primary responsibilities include: 

  • Provide general coverage at the front gate and in the parking lot, including but not limited to greeting campus visitors, receiving donations, monitoring parking lot, and providing appropriate crisis intervention and advocacy including issues related to mental health, domestic violence, physical and verbal altercations, and medical.
  • Engage with campus visitors to familiarize them with all aspects of GRACE programs
    • Provide potential service users with information on intakes, diversions, campus resources, and information on how to receive appropriate services
    • Provide a welcoming experience to potential donors, including sharing information on GRACE programs, helping to unload donations, and coordinating recordkeeping (donation receipts)
    • Provide access to campus as appropriate for first responders, vendors, journalists, and others.
    • Direct other visitors to the appropriate program, department, or service providers 
  • Monitor the parking lot to ensure the area is safe and clean for campus visitors. 
    • Communicate expectations to individuals congregating in the parking lot
    • Use de-escalation and other techniques to resolve immediate conflicts
    • Address inappropriate uses of parking lot immediately
    • Coordinate with maintenance staff to ensure a clean and welcoming environment



Secondary Responsibilities 

  • Use motivational interviewing to engage with residents about housing
  • Attend staff and team meetings and other training as required or assigned.
  • De-escalate situations using verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Maintain operations by ensuring cleanliness, safety, and monitoring equipment conditions.
  • Effectively communicate campus expectations and guidelines with guests in a respectful manner.
  • Assist with weather emergency situations as they arise. May be required to work additional hours during emergency weather events throughout the year.
  • Model exemplary behavior and work ethic to residents, guests, volunteers and advocates.



Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to continuously stand or walk
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds




  • Experience with crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and conflict de-escalation, or begin training within 30 days of employment
  • Willingness to receive ongoing training in motivational interviewing, low-barrier shelter, housing-focused shelter, progressive engagement, trauma-informed care, and other best practices
  • Working knowledge of the Housing First philosophy, and ability to articulate associated programs and best practices to staff, volunteers, and Board members
  • Skills to collaborate with and motivate fellow employees and guests
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Outgoing personality and ability to create a positive experience for guests, volunteers, donors and visitors.
